History

KathodeRay creates corporate communications and interactive educational experiences using a wide range of traditional and new media tools. We combine museum quality attention to detail with compelling creative design and apply a clear and concise presentation to even the most complicated subject matters. We are the seamless connection between our clients and their target audience.

KathodeRay was founded by Kathleen McQuaid Packard in 1996 to provide comprehensive design services for large media companies, prior to the development of their own internal media groups. In less than three years, KathodeRay Media had expanded its reach and was providing new media solutions for companies in the high-tech, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, entertainment and consumer industries. During this period, KathodeRay created websites and marketing for Time Warner, McCann-Erickson, TimeOnline, HBO and HBO Home Video, Kodak, and Lucent Technologies, Cuisinart and PharmaNet.

In 1999, KathodeRay merged with DME Interactive, providing the technology arm that enabled DME to become the first publicly held African-American Technology Company. During this joint venture, the interactive media division designed and developed media for clients such as Cash Money Records, The Tom Joyner Show and Urban Mall.

In 2001, KathodeRay Media reformed independently, opening an office in the World Trade Center, and then later relocated to Brooklyn, NY. With the experience gained from successfully completing a wide range of diverse projects, KathodeRay focused on providing direct, personal service to a number of vertical markets, including health, education, technology, real estate and consumer products helping these companies build and execute marketing programs that communicate, promote and entertain.

Creative and technical innovator, Wells Packard, joined KathodeRay in September of 2003. He has created numerous rich media applications that have been enjoyed by millions of people around the world. Wells' engineering abilities are exhibited in his technically superior and user-friendly museum kiosks, CD-ROMs, ad banner campaigns and online games. Wells has won many major advertising industry awards for his work including the Cannes International Advertising Festival's Cyber Lion Award and the Clio Interactive. Wells currently teaches Game Design at New York University.

In 2004, KathodeRay moved its headquarters to Greenville, NY where its offices and studios are housed in its own 3,400 square foot office building. KathodeRay currently employs a full time staff consisting of 9 team members who each bring unique talents and vision to the company.

Since establishing the business in Greenville, KathodeRay has taken an active leadership role in the Hudson Valley Region. Kathleen shares her knowledge of strategic business growth through seminars that she has led for local Chambers of Commerce. With the addition of a full-time business development coordinator, KathodeRay proactively advises area businesses, contributing to the area’s growth and prosperity. In addition, KathodeRay offers annual marketing grants to local non-profit businesses so that they can benefit from the firm’s expertise, even when they have limited funds.

KathodeRay continues to broaden its reach and capabilities offering a full complement of strategic development and promotional services, in addition to the firm's depth of expertise in both print and interactive design, from brand definition to public relations. By accessing these expanded services, clients can easily create comprehensive, seamlessly integrated marketing programs through one dedicated company.
